Appalling Response from Congresswoman Nita Lowey
Location: BlogsKeeping in touch with the WESPAC family

Frank Brodhead drafted a letter that was sent to Congresswoman Nita Lowey on behalf of Concerned Families of Westchester, No War Westchester and WESPAC Foundation expressing our frustration about the ongoing occupation of Iraq by American military forces and the misuse of our tax-dollars and resources away from domestic needs such as healthcare, affordable housing, job creation, improving our public transportation systems etc and into illegal military activity.

Her response is totally inadequate, and she is infact telling her constituents to get ready and be prepared for a "pre-emptive" US strike on Iran.  Her exact words in the letter dated April 5th, 2006:

"As you know, Iran presents one of the largest foreign policy challenges to our nation.  It has pursued and continues to pursue nuclear capability and openly threatens both the US and its allies with violence.  Iran is a theocracy that has lied to the international community, manipulated international organizations in order to pursue its nuclear ambitions, and exploited the chaos in Iraq to strengthen its regional power base.  Conceding the region to Iran could have catastrophic implications for US national security and international counterproliferation efforts for decades to come".

Who has allowed Iran to strengthen its regional power base?  Iran is not in violation of any international nuclear treaty unlike the US.

Instead of challenging the Bush Administration's drive to strike Iran with possibly nuclear weapons, the leading Democrats are "softening" their constituents to prepare them for illegal US military activity in Iran.  Frank's original letter made no mention of Iran and focused strictly on the issue of the continued presence of US troops in Iraq.

Her response is a very sad reminder of the state of affairs here, how corporations, capitalism and AIPAC are all leading us down a path towards a hellish state of affairs for all.

I have spoken with Frank and we will respond to this.
